An unprecedented scene took place in the Oval Office during Ukrainian President Zelensky's visit to the White House. In front of the cameras, US President Donald Trump and his deputy JD Vance raised their voices at the Ukrainian president, speaking in very harsh tones.
American leaders launched a frontal attack on the Ukrainian president, putting him with his "shoulders against the wall" and finding him so unprepared that they could not find the words in English to respond.
The pressure was on Zelensky to quickly accept a ceasefire agreement with Russia and then demand a security guarantee, as at this moment, according to the American president, he is not in a position to set conditions.
It seems that the flirtation with Zelensky has deeper roots, as JD Vance did not forget to remind the Ukrainian president that in October he had campaigned for their presidential rivals.
"Without us you have no papers. His behavior has to change. You have to be grateful. You have to make a deal or we will abandon you and if we abandon you then you will really see how strong you are. You don't have the papers. If we sign the deal you will be in a better position ," were some of Trump's words to Zelensky in this meeting.
During his speech, Trump told Zelensky to be grateful while accusing him of "gambling on World War III."
"You're in a bad position. You're gambling with World War III, you don't have the right cards, you have to make a deal with Russia. Either you make a deal or we pull out, and if we pull out, you're going to have to deal with it yourself. I don't think that's going to be a good thing ," Trump said.
While Zelensky responded that he did not come here to gamble, there was no shortage of clashes with the American vice president.
"I didn't come here to gamble. Putin is a criminal, he started the war and he has to pay, he has to stop if we don't have any compromise with a murderer ," Zelensky said.
During the remarks, Zelensky asked Vice President Vance if he had been to Ukraine to see the war scenes. Meanwhile, Vance stated that he had read and seen.
Then, Zelensky shakes his head, saying that the US will also feel the consequences of the war.
After this sentence, Trump appears visibly frustrated and intervenes: " Don't tell us what we're going to feel. You're not in a position to dictate what we're going to feel. We're going to feel very good and very strong."
"If you could reach a ceasefire now, I would tell you to accept it so the bullets stop flying," Trump said.
Zelensky : Of course I want to stop the war
Trump: You say you don't want a ceasefire.
Zelensky: I want a ceasefire agreement with guarantees.
The American president did not fail to mention the money that Ukraine received from his predecessor for this war, to whom he also referred with insulting words.
"We gave you through this stupid president 350 billion dollars, we gave you military equipment... if you didn't have our military equipment, this war would have been over in two weeks."
"I heard it from Putin for three days ," Zelensky replies.
Earlier in the Trump-Vance-Zelensky meeting
Trump: What you're doing is disrespecting the country, this country that has supported you far more than many people have said they should have.
Zelensky : I am with all due respect for your country.
Vice President Vance : Did you say 'thank you' once during the entire meeting?
Zelensky: Many times
Vance: No, in this whole meeting, have you said 'thank you'?"
Vance: Offer some words of appreciation for the US and the President who is trying to save your country.
Zelensky tries to respond, saying: "Please, think about it if you are going to talk too loudly about the war..."
He is interrupted by Trump: Your country is in big trouble.
High-pitched discussions and strong criticisms made by Trump-Vance towards Zelensky prevented the agreement from being signed.
In this way, the Ukrainian President left the White House and the press conference that had been announced in advance was canceled.
Donald Trump accused Zelensky on social media of disrespecting the United States, while leaving the door open for him to return to where he is ready for peace.
This was a meeting that produced no good, and which probably brought about the end of Washington's support for Kiev.
