US pressures Poland to donate Soviet fighter jets to Ukraine

The US is pressuring Poland to give Ukraine its eastern production aircraft, MiG and Sukhoi, which can be run without problem by Ukrainian pilots.

According to NBC, Washington has promised Warsaw that any aircraft it will provide to Ukraine will replace it with F-16 American production.

U.S. media say the transfer of aircraft is expected to be formalized in the following days, and this decision would be a significant reinforcement in the air for Ukrainians, who to escape Russian shelling have called on NATO to declare their airspace as a no-fly zone.

Poland has 23 MiG-29, 18 Sukhoi SU-22 and 11 Soviet-made fighter helicopters in its inventory.
