The US warns of the escalation of the conflict in the Middle East

Jake Sullivan, the White House National Security Adviser, warned on Sunday of the risk of escalating the conflict in the Middle East and said the US is making efforts for safe passage for American citizens from Gaza to Egypt.

Sullivan said the United States wants to ensure that the civilian population fleeing Gaza has access to food, water and shelter and that they reach safe areas.

"There is a risk of an escalation of this conflict, the opening of a second front in the north and, of course, the involvement of Iran. The United States remains concerned about Hezbollah in Lebanon," Sullivan said.

The White House adviser added that the vast majority of Gaza's population has no ties to Hamas, adding that they "deserve to live with dignity and security."
