Serbia accepts Kosovo license plates, Albin Kurti: Strategy to reduce pressure

The Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, has commented on Belgrade's decision to allow the circulation of vehicles with the official license plates of the Republic of Kosovo.

During the last meeting of the government of Kosovo, Kurti, as written by the Kosovar media, stated that this decision of Serbia comes to reduce the pressure from the European Union for the irregular and non-democratic elections that took place a weekend ago in Serbia.

According to him, two years ago, Serbia used the license plate issue to tense the security situation in the north of Kosovo.

"Although it serves the free and easy movement of the two states, I want to emphasize that this decision is coming after more than 10 years of non-implementation of previous agreements. Serbia's use of the license plate issue for two years to tense the security situation in the north of our country and now recently as an attempt to reduce criticism from the international community on Serbia after the irregularities in the electoral system there.

So the license plates in Kosovo in September 2021 were used to threaten Kosovo also through Mig 29 planes, raised in the sky over the border and attempting destabilization in the north of the country, especially through 16 barricades which were erected on the streets of four northern municipalities for three consecutive weeks in December last year. And in the month we are in (December) they are being used to reduce the pressure from the democratic West, the EU, the USA, on Serbia for the irregular, undemocratic elections and to cover the official rejection of the basic Brussels agreement that wrote letters to the Prime Minister of Serbia, Brnabić, addressed to the European Council on December 13 and to mask their failure in Banjska on September 24", said Kurti.
