Serbia arrests former KLA soldier, headed to Italy after visa liberalization

Former KLA soldier Hasan Dakaj was arrested by Serbian authorities in Merdare as he was on his way to Italy with his brother.

This was announced by the attorney Xhevdet Smakiqi through a social media post.

He wrote that he was authorized by the Dakaj family to defend the legal rights of their family.

Smakiqi has called on the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to demand through diplomatic channels hasan Dakaj's release.

Today I was authorized by the Dakaj family from Prizren to defend the legal rights of their family Hasan Dakaj, born on 10.08.1980 from Prizren who was already a member of the KLA, was arrested in Merdare at about 9:00 a.m. while traveling with his brother to Italy.

The Dakaj family is under great fear and anxiety as Serbian police officer Hasan Dakaj, according to the first information, sent him to the detention center in Kushumli and may be subjected to physical and psychological torots or worse.

I will immediately take action by applying to the MFA to be questioned about the fate of Kosovo citizen Hasan Dakaj arrested this morning in Merdare by Serbian police just because he was a former KLA member.

As a Dakaj Family Lawyer, I urge the MFA to request through diplomatic channels to request the release of Hasan Dakaj and to allow free movement like every Citizen of Kosovo without discrimination.

Stop the persecution of Kosovo citizens by the state of Serbia, which is violating the ultimate freedom of free travel with a focus on former KLA members.
