Putin warns: If Europe wants war, we are ready

Russian President Vladimir Putin declared on Tuesday that Moscow "does not seek war with Europe," but warned that "if Europe seeks war, we are ready now."

In a series of harsh-toned statements, delivered minutes before the announced meeting with Donald Trump's envoys, Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, in the Kremlin, Putin accused European governments of sabotaging the peace process and stressed that "European demands are not acceptable to Russia."

"Today it is the Europeans who are preventing the United States from achieving peace in Ukraine," he said.

Putin did not specify which European demands Moscow considers unacceptable, but his comments appear intended to deepen the clash between Washington and European capitals.

The latter have supported Kiev in proposals to revise a 28-point peace plan, drafted earlier in US-Russia talks and which significantly favored Moscow.

During the statement, Putin also threatened retaliation against Ukrainian ports and ships, after Kiev has struck several vessels of Russia's so-called "shadow" fleet in the Black Sea in recent days.

He warned that Russia would "intensify strikes on Ukrainian ports and any ship entering them" if attacks on Russian tankers, which he described as "acts of piracy," continue.
