Fang Bin, who documented the first outbreak of Covid-19 in the Chinese city of Wuhan, has been released from prison. The news is reported by the BBC, citing sources.
Fang who is one of the so-called citizen journalists who disappeared after sharing videos from the scenes in Wuhan, the epicenter of the pandemic.

After disappearing in February 2020, he was sentenced to three years in prison after a secret trial held in Wuhan.
According to the BBC, he was released on Sunday and is in good health. One of his videos caught the attention of people around the world as it showed eight bags containing dead bodies outside a Covid-19 hospital. The footage lasted five minutes.

He then said he was detained by authorities and then released. But another video was released with the message: “All the people revolt, return the power of the government to the people ."
This was the last video he released.

Although activists are happy for his release, they are worried about the fate of another whistleblower, Zhang Zhan. The 39-year-old, a former lawyer, was arrested in May 2022 and jailed for four years in December 2020.
