Donald Trump says he has nominated former Florida congressman Matt Gaetz for the post of Attorney General, a name that has left many Republicans speechless.
Gaetz appears to have been chosen to push Donald Trump's radical agenda to make sweeping changes to the Justice Department.
Hours before the announcement, Gaetz said in a social media post that there should be a "full-scale judicial push against this gun-toting government." He added, "And if that means dissolving any one of the three agencies, from FBI to ATF, I'm ready to go." If confirmed as attorney general, he will oversee the FBI and ATF, formally known as the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
Gaetz is a controversial figure in the US. Although he has denied the charges, he was previously investigated as part of a network of sex trafficking of minors.
But his strange behavior does not end there. Earlier, he was put in the spotlight after he defended a prosecutor who had suggested that the justice make a deal with the notorious pedophile Jeffrey Epstein.
Some time later, an American journalist would reveal his relationship when he was a congressman with a 21-year-old student.
Another controversial moment was when Gaetz reposted an expression of the singer Bebe Rexha.
The latter had written on "Twitter" that "there is no age when you can't be sexy", after a music producer had criticized her for "getting old".
Gaetz reposted Bebe Rexha's quote, adding, "I think the welcome signs in Florida should be replaced with this quote."
Considering his past, the post didn't go down well, with many commenters poking fun at him.
