Almost two years after Brexit, the United Kingdom is being tempted by a European Union project. It is what is being billed as the "political club of European nations", with the London government considering whether to attend its first meeting next month in Prague, Czech Republic.

Downing Street wants to see more details of the summit before Prime Minister Liz Truss makes a decision on whether to attend or reject the event. The European Political Community, the official name, is an idea created and supported by the French president, Emmanuel Macron. The head of Elize Palace proposed it in May, as "a new space" for cooperation. Macron suggested that this grouping could discuss issues of security, energy, transport and the free movement of people, especially young people. The broad aim of this initiative is to create a forum that goes beyond the 27 member states of the European Union.

Great Britain wants assurances that the meeting will not be dominated by EU states or institutions. It also requires other important countries outside the bloc to participate. According to the reports so far, it is expected that Ukraine, Switzerland, Norway, Turkey, the six countries of the Western Balkans, including Albania, together with Iceland, Liechtenstein, Moldova, Georgia, Armenia and Azerbaijan, will come to the summit of the European Political Community.

Very few details have emerged regarding this initiative, which is suspected to be used by France, a country skeptical of EU enlargement, as a "waiting area" for countries aspiring to join the European Union. However, union leaders insist that the initiative will not replace the enlargement process.
