Montenegro is close to creating a new government headed by diplomat Miodrag Lekic, proposed as prime minister by a coalition of pro-Serbian parties and the Ura movement of former prime minister Abazovic.

From Washington, Abazovic said that 41 deputies have recreated the parliamentary majority that emerged from the 2020 elections.

According to the preliminary agreement, the new Montenegrin government will have half of the ministers from the ranks of Abazovic's URA movement, while the other half will be ministers from other parties.

The United States of America has said that it does not see the new government alliance, the Democratic Front, as a partner because it does not support European values. This party was also mentioned in the latest US report as having received funding from Russia.

Abazovic was ousted on August 20 after parliament voted in favor of a no-confidence motion against her, which was taken after the cabinet voted in favor of the basic agreement with the Serbian Orthodox Church.

This Monday was the deadline by which President Milo Djukanovic should receive a proposal for the mandate of a representative for the creation of a new government in order to avoid early parliamentary elections.
