Mendi Qyra is a well-known name in the economic and social life of Struga. He is a successful entrepreneur and has been active in the Economic Chamber of North Macedonia for years, where he also served as the president of the Economic Chamber of North-Western Macedonia (OEMVP).

Through this commitment, Qyra has positioned itself as a strong voice of local business and as a representative of the interests of Albanian entrepreneurs in North Macedonia.

Professionally, he founded and ran the company “Trim & Lum”, which is recognized as a sustainable enterprise contributing to local development. This role has given him direct experience in management, finance and organization – experiences that he now aims to transfer to municipal governance.

Why did you run?

In June 2025, Mendi Qyra announced his independent candidacy for mayor of Struga. According to him, this was not a personal ambition, but a response to the demand that came to him from the community – from businesses, young people and citizens who want change in the management of the city.

“I am not coming as a savior, because Struga does not need a hero. Struga needs honest work,” Qyra declared during his candidacy announcement. This sentence has become the motto of his campaign, reflecting a realistic and down-to-earth approach.

The Vision for Struga

His political program is not built on grand, unattainable promises, but on tangible priorities for citizens:

Local Economic Development: Support for small and medium-sized businesses, creating conditions for young people to stay and work in Struga.

Responsible City Management: Increasing transparency in municipal expenditures, efficient use of the budget and fighting mismanagement.

Awakening City: It seeks to make Struga a more vibrant, functional and attractive space for living and tourism.

Focus on youth: Concrete projects for education, innovation and the creation of new employment opportunities.

Environmental Protection and Tourism: Struga has extraordinary potential in tourism and nature, so the Mayor has emphasized that the priority is the preservation of natural resources and the development of sustainable tourism.

Strengths

Long experience in business and economics, which gives him an advantage in managing public funds.

Strong ties to the local community – as an entrepreneur and activist, he has created networks of trust with citizens and organizations.

An independent candidate, which positions him outside of narrow party interests and brings him closer to the ordinary citizen.

Realistic and pragmatic approach – does not promise miracles, but requires concrete and measurable work.

The challenges that await

Local political scheme: Struga is a city with many political competitions and party polarizations. An independent candidate, although popular, must challenge strong party structures.

High expectations: As a well-known and respected figure, citizens will expect tangible results in a short time.

Balancing the role of businessman with that of politician: Will have to prove that private interests will not influence public duties.

Mendi Qyra presents himself as an energetic, independent and realistic candidate, with a strong career in entrepreneurship and economic organizations. He sees Struga as a city that needs to “wake up” from empty promises and turn into a space of functionality and well-being. His candidacy is positive because it brings new spirit, with a focus on concrete jobs, the economy and youth.

However, the path to winning the elections and bringing about real change will be challenging, given that Struga's political scene is complex and often polarized.
