Polish authorities said on Saturday that they have seized a high school building near the Moscow embassy in Warsaw, intended for the children of diplomats. This action was called illegal by the representatives of Russia in Poland.

On Saturday it was announced that Russia will make an official diplomatic protest regarding this action. The fight over the multi-story building from the 70s, called the "nest of spies" by the citizens of Warsaw, has been going on for a year now.

"This building belongs to the Warsaw municipality," Polish Foreign Ministry spokesman Lukasz Jasina told AFP.

Poland says there is a huge disparity in the number of diplomatic buildings the countries have with each other.

"This is an illegal act. An intrusion into a diplomatic facility," Moscow's envoy, Sergei Andreyev, told the RIA Novosti news agency.

Andrejev said this was a "violation of the Vienna convention on diplomatic relations".

"We consider the school from the embassy as part of our diplomatic mission," he said, adding that teachers and staff live on the grounds of that building.

Andreyev said the school will continue to operate in a different part of the Russian embassy premises.

"Our priority is to ensure the safety and interests of our employees and their families," he said.

Russia started the invasion of Ukraine on February 24, 2022 and has faced harsh sanctions from Western countries after that./REL
