Plan for mass deportation of illegal immigrants, Trump confidant reveals

Liberals in the US have reacted sharply after Donald Trump's border chief confirmed that illegal immigrant families with children will be held in detention centers.

Tom Homan, who will oversee Trump's mass deportation plan, was unsparing in a recent interview with the Washington Post, telling the newspaper that the responsibility lay with the children's parents.

"You knew you were in the country illegally and you chose to have a child. So you put your family in that position," Homan said.

But his strong stance on Biden's border crisis sparked anger from liberals who accused the former ICE director of advocating for 'concentration camps.'

Homan advocated a return to the detention center policy, which was implemented under the first Trump administration.

"We have to show the American people that we can do this and not be inhumane about it. We cannot lose the trust of the American people," he told the Washington Post.

Joe Biden ended the use of detention centers in 2021 by closing three dormitory-like facilities with approximately 3,000 beds.

Homan says the Trump administration will not try to break up families if they deport parents for being in the United States illegally.

Families – who potentially have young children born in America – will be told to decide for themselves whether to leave the country together or separately.

Ultimately, he says, the goal will be to keep families together, regardless of the legality of how the parents or children arrived in the United States.

"I'm not saying keep them in custody. We're going to let them take the child and put them in custody with the child so they can go to court and plead their case as a family," he said.
