Pentagon considering withdrawing 10,000 troops from Europe

Senior US Defense Department officials are considering a proposal to withdraw up to 10,000 troops from Europe.

According to NBC News, this will cause concern on both continents as it would strengthen the positions of Russian President Vladimir Putin.

The troops under consideration for withdrawal are 20,000 personnel that the Biden administration sent in 2022 to bolster the defenses of states bordering Ukraine, following the Russian invasion.

Domestic discussions about reducing US troop levels in Romania and Poland are taking place at a time when President Donald Trump is trying to convince Putin to accept a ceasefire.

Meanwhile, US Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth said the United States will focus on securing the southern border and countering China.
