444 kilograms of cocaine were seized by the police in Tacuarembo, Uruguay after an anti-drug operation coded "Albania" and as a result three people were arrested.

Uruguayan media reports that the cocaine was dropped from a small plane flying over the area of Rincon de Zamora, Montevideo Chico. The traffickers then loaded it into a truck carrying timber.

The two drivers of the truck, 24 and 36 years old, have been arrested. Also, a 20-year-old man was put in handcuffs, who was responsible for informing them where the drugs that were thrown from the plane had fallen.

According to the Prosecutor's Office, the 20-year-old is accused of assisting in the drug trafficking activity, while the two drivers are accused of transporting drugs. The security measure of "imprisonment" of 120 days has been set for them. Prosecutor Ferrero reported that controls were carried out on area farms in Soriano, Rivera and Montevideo.

In a press conference, Richard Saravia, Tacuarembo's police chief, said this is a record seizure for the department and highlighted it as something historic.

According to Guillermo Maciel, undersecretary of the Ministry of the Interior, the seized cocaine is worth three and a half million dollars in the domestic market: "If it were divided into doses in the national market, it would amount to seven million dollars" and "The same drug located in Europe it is 15 million dollars".

The undersecretary indicated that "it probably wouldn't stay here because it's good quality cocaine, so it generally goes out of the country," although he said this is a hypothesis and has not been proven.

It is not yet known where the cocaine came from: "It is part of the investigation and intelligence procedure that is being carried out in coordination with the intelligence agencies of other Mercosur countries, specifically with Brazil, Argentina and Paraguay."

It is still not known why the operation was coded "Albania" and the origin of the three arrested persons
