A former Twitter employee who is six months pregnant and fired last week plans to sue the company for discrimination.
Shennan Lu was working as a data analyst at Twitter before she was laid off along with thousands of other employees on Friday as new CEO Elon Musk continues to make cuts.
According to the Daily Mail, Lu took to the social media platform to express her frustration at the company's handling of the situation, accusing it of discrimination and vowing to go to court. Her tweets and account have since been deleted.
After laying off about 50% of Twitter's workforce on Friday following its acquisition by Musk, the company has reportedly reached out to dozens of employees to return to work. The company still employs about 3,700 people.
In one of the now-deleted tweets, according to Insider, Lu wrote, among other things: "My journey on Twitter came to an end, I was fired at six months pregnant. It was a pleasure working with you all. I'm so grateful to lead such an amazing team, it's been a fun ride. There are certainly differences here. So I will fight. See you in court."
Lu isn't the only pregnant employee to be fired in the round of mass layoffs. Rachel Bonn, the former chief marketing officer at Twitter's San Francisco headquarters, who is eight months pregnant, also announced she was fired. Five former employees filed a class-action lawsuit alleging the firings violated federal law.
After the mass layoffs, Musk defended his decision saying he had no choice but to make cuts due to Twitter's financial situation.
