Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, as well as other leaders from around the world, is in the US to participate in the work of the UN Assembly.

But unlike his counterparts, Erdogan has received all the media attention since his security convoy paralyzed New York on September 20.

Visiting the metropolis for the 76th United Nations General Assembly, Erdogan was seen driving down a Manhattan street in a motorcade that included several luxury limousines, armored vans, motorcycles, armored SUVs and Mercedes Benz ambulances.

Erdogan's lavish parade has been criticized by the main opposition lawmaker, from the Republican People's Party (CHP), Tuncay Ozkan.

"Waste in the state, waste in the world", wrote Ozkan, next to the video, referring to Mustafa Kemal Ataturk's quote: "Peace in the state, peace in the world".

So it is worth underlining that the President of Turkey often travels with a high number of companions, while the "miscellaneous" component in the Presidency's budget that also covers official trips for 2024 was ten times higher than that of 2021.

From the approximately 9.8 billion Turkish lira that was earmarked at the beginning of fiscal year 2021, spending for this category jumped to 83 billion lira at the end of August.
