Due to bad weather, in the town of Sant'Agata dei Gotti in Lower Italy, in the wider region of Naples, part of the local cemetery collapsed today.
The main cause of the incident seems to be the increase in the water level in a dam located near the cemetery. About 20 coffins and 80 urns ended up in a valley.
If the weather will be more stable, their repositioning in the cemetery will begin.
"We respect the pain of the families of the dead, but we ask for the maximum possible understanding and cooperation from everyone, without unfairly blaming," said the mayor of Sant'Agata dei Gotti, Salvatore Riccio.
Many of the family members of the dead have requested judicial intervention to ascertain whether the local government is responsible, as residents had long pointed out the problems in the cemetery area.
