Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis reacted strongly after his British counterpart, Rishi Sunak , canceled the meeting scheduled between them for this Tuesday in London.
The reason for the cancellation of this meeting was a diplomatic dispute over the sculptures of the Parthenon.
"I regret that the British Prime Minister canceled the planned meeting between us, just a few hours before it was to be held. Greece's positions on the issue of the Parthenon sculptures are well known. I was hoping to discuss them with my British counterpart. Anyone who believes in the rightness of their positions is never afraid to face arguments," he said.
Greece has repeatedly asked the British Museum to return the 2,500-year-old sculptures that British diplomat Lord Elgin took from the Parthenon temple in the early 19th century when he was ambassador to the Ottoman Empire.
Earlier, a spokesman for Prime Minister Sunak said Britain had no plans to return the sculptures.
