Thousands line the streets as Queen Elizabeth's body departs for Edinburgh

The hearse carrying the body of Elizabeth II left her Balmoral residence, where the queen breathed her last on Thursday, for Edinburgh, the capital of Scotland.

The coffin, draped in the Scottish flag and carrying a bouquet of flowers, passed through the gates of Balmoral shortly after 12 noon. Thousands of people had gathered along the route to pay their respects to the Queen.

The motorcade carrying the body will cover a distance of 300 km and is expected to arrive at the Palace of Holyroodhouse, the monarch's official residence in Edinburgh, at around 6pm. Then on Tuesday night the body will be flown to London. We remind you that the funeral of Queen Elizabeth will take place on September 19.
