Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni has advised British Conservative Party leader Kemi Badenoch not to make political deals with Nigel Farage and his party, Reform UK.

According to The Times, Meloni and Badenoch met on Monday, August 24, in Rome, where they held a coffee meeting for about an hour. The two politicians discussed the economy, immigration and wider political developments in Europe.

During the conversation, Meloni suggested to Badenoch to maintain her political identity and not give in to pressure for a deal with Reform UK. The Italian prime minister's message, according to the report, was for her to "be herself" and "stand her ground."

The advice comes at a time when Britain's Conservatives are facing stiff competition from Reform UK. Badenoch himself had declared over the weekend that a coalition government between the Conservatives and Reform UK would be a "monstrous" combination.

Nigel Farage has also ruled out a coalition. He told The Times that he does not trust the Conservatives and that such a deal, in his opinion, would be neither necessary nor desirable.

Meloni and Badenoch have had a political relationship for several years. They first met in 2023, when Badenoch was Britain's business minister, and have continued to keep in touch.

At the Rome meeting, Badenoch also expressed interest in the Meloni government's economic model. The two politicians discussed ways to prevent the departure of high-income individuals from Britain and Italy, as well as issues related to European policies.
