Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni held a telephone conversation today with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, on the eve of his upcoming visits to Brussels, Rome and London.
According to the official announcement of the Italian government, Meloni reaffirmed to Zelensky Italy's solidarity after the recent Russian attacks. She informed the Ukrainian president that Rome will send emergency equipment to support the energy infrastructure and citizens of Ukraine.
"Generators manufactured by Italian companies will depart for Ukraine in the coming days," the statement states.
Meloni also expressed her support for the ongoing negotiations and the United States' efforts to find a process that leads to a "just and lasting peace."
The announcement emphasizes that Ukraine's willingness to sit at the negotiating table "in good faith" is essential for the progress of the process and that there are expectations that a similar step will come from the Russian side.
