Kosovo Minister of Internal Affairs, Xhelal Sveçla, defended the action of the Kosovo authorities taken on August 5, when nine branches of Serbian Post in northern Kosovo, inhabited by Serbs, were closed.
During a visit to North Mitrovica, Sveçla was asked by journalists about the action, which was criticized by the United States and the European Union.
"What the African unions are doing is very normal. They didn't have a license," Svechla said.
A day ago, kosovo police said that the action took place after the information received by the Regulatory Authority of Electronic and Postal Communications (ARKEP) that economic operators without licenses are operating in the territory of Kosovo and are not registered with the Agency for Business Registration of Kosovo (ARBK).
Authorities closed three facilities in North Mitrovica and Leposavic, two in Zvecan and one in Zubin Potok.
The European Union criticized the action, saying it was a unilateral and uncoordinated act by Kosovo authorities. The United States also said it was "deeply disappointed" by the closure of the Post of Serbia branches.
