The US Navy may have heard the explosion of the submarine that disappeared on Sunday with five passengers on board, who were going to the bottom of the sea to see the wreckage of the Titanic.

While it remains a mystery when the incident occurred, media reported that senior Navy officials confirmed that a secret system recorded what sounded like an explosion.

According to an official, the voice was recorded around the time contact with the Titan submarine was lost on Sunday. However, the official said it was not certain that the recording came from the submarine.

Five pieces of the submarine were found about 500 meters from the Titanic at the bottom of the North Atlantic, with the US Coast Guard announcing on Thursday that they belonged to the Titan.

The wreckage shows a catastrophic decompression that led to its breakup, the coast guard said, confirming there were no survivors.
