French President Emmanuel Macron has unleashed a barrage of harsh criticism against the United States, accusing it of a kind of "neocolonial aggression " that is damaging relations with allies and violating international rules.
During his annual speech to French ambassadors, Macron did not spare strong tones, noting that Washington is gradually moving away from joint commitments, while global institutions are functioning less and less.
According to the head of the Elysée, today we live in a world where great powers are tempted to divide the globe among themselves as in the old days, an approach that he described as "new imperialism."
Macron stressed that France refuses to surrender to this situation and called for a strong return to United Nations diplomacy, calling their abandonment a completely absurd act.
Macron devoted a good part of his speech to the need for a stronger and more independent Europe, especially in the technology sector, which is currently a target of American interests. He urged European countries to defend their digital market rules at all costs and create a “democratic shield” against foreign interference.
His message was clear: Europe, with its 450 million inhabitants, must act as a united economic power, prioritizing trade within the continent and simplifying capital markets, so as not to remain a mere spectator in the clash between great powers.
