Representatives of the EU member states agreed with the proposal that visa liberalization for Kosovo will come into effect on January 1, 2024.
Radio Free Europe understands that the agreement was reached at a meeting of visa advisers on Tuesday in Brussels. This date was requested by Spain - one of the five EU countries that does not yet recognize Kosovo's independence.
Previously, the Czech Republic, which currently leads the EU's six-month presidency, requested that visa liberalization for Kosovo be enforced on December 1, 2023.
However, this proposal did not pass at a meeting of the EU working group on visas, which was held last week, after Spain and then Slovakia and Sweden submitted observations and requested, as they said, additional clarifications./ REL
