Slovak diplomat and former European Union special representative for the Kosovo-Serbia dialogue, Miroslav Lajcak, will become an advisor to Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico on issues related to the Western Balkans, President Peter Pellegrini said at a press conference during his official visit to Albania on Friday.
Pellegrini informed President Bajram Begaj about this during Friday's talks in Tirana. "I informed the president that the former EU High Representative for the Kosovo-Serbia dialogue, Miroslav Lajcak, has become an advisor to the prime minister on security issues in the region," Pellegrini said, adding that the Albanian government has a person close to the Slovak government for dialogue, reports the Slovak news agency TASR.
Lajčak has held various diplomatic positions, representing not only Slovakia, but also the United Nations and the European Union. Most recently (April 2020-January 2025), he served as the European Union's Special Envoy for the Kosovo-Serbia Dialogue.
In the past, he has also served as ambassador to Russia, Japan and the Western Balkan countries. He has served as Slovakia's foreign minister several times and chaired the 72nd United Nations General Assembly.
