The daughter of a corrupt dictator, who also posed as a pop star and diplomat, has spent at least $240 million on properties from London to Hong Kong.

According to the BBC, Gulnara Karimova used her UK companies to buy houses and a private jet with funds obtained through bribery and corruption.

This is stated in a report prepared by 'Freedom for Eurasia'. This report raises further doubts about the efforts made by Great Britain to fight illegal wealth, reports the BBC. The report states that the ease with which Karimova secured her British properties is disturbing.

For a period of time, Gulnara Karimova was thought to be the successor to her father, Islam Karimov, who ruled Uzbekistan from 1989 until his death in 2016.

She appeared in pop music videos under the stage name Googoosha, owned a jewelry company and served as ambassador to Spain.

In 2014, she disappeared from the public eye. It was later learned that she had been arrested on corruption charges while her father was still in power. In 2017, she was convicted and sent to prison in 2019 after breaking the security measure of house arrest.

Prosecutors say she was part of a criminal ring that controlled more than $1 billion in assets in 12 countries.

Tom Mayne, one of the authors of the report, said that the Karimova case is one of the biggest cases of corruption and bribery in history.
