For the first time after 7 decades, a new monarch has been crowned in Great Britain. The Archbishop of Canterbury placed the Crown of St. Edward on the head of King Charles III, culminating in the grand coronation ceremony.

The ceremony held in Westminster Abbey took place under strict security conditions and with the pomp that belongs to the coronation of one of the longest-lived kingdoms in the world.

"God save the King," was the cry of the archbishop and congregation after placing the crown of St. Edward on the King's head.

Abbey bells toll, trumpets and gunshots are heard across the UK.

After the wreath was laid, gun salutes were heard from 13 different cities in the kingdom, including Edinburgh in Scotland, Cardiff in Wales and Belfast in Northern Ireland.

The main gun-fire ceremony took place at the Tower of London, while the bells of Westminster Abbey were heard tolling to mark the historic moment.

Details:

-Charles III and Camilla are crowned King and Queen in a ceremony full of music and symbolism inside Westminster Abbey.

-King Charles III took the oath, was anointed with holy oil, before the crown of St. Edward was placed on his head.

-Camilla was crowned Queen Mary in a similar ceremony moments later.

-About 2,200 people, including the royal family, celebrities, religious leaders and heads of state, are in attendance.

-Thousands of people lined the streets and the party atmosphere seems to have just started.
