The mayor of Kyiv makes a strong statement: Zelensky will leave the post as
Volodymyr Zelensky and Vitali Klitschko

As the war continues between Ukraine and Russia, the mayor of Kyiv, Vitali Klitschko, has issued a surprise statement, saying that Volodymyr Zelensky will step down as president of Ukraine.

Klitschko, former world heavyweight boxing champion, made his surprising statement in an interview with the Swiss newspaper "20 Minuta".

He said Ukraine's counter-offensive has stalled and Zelensky is "paying for his mistakes". The 52-year-old, who has led Kyiv since 2014, said Zelensky's popularity has declined.

He attacked his political opponent, saying he ignored warnings of a Russian invasion on February 24, 2022.

"People see who is effective and who is not. There were and still are many expectations. Zelensky is paying for the mistakes he made. People now raise the question why were we not more prepared for this war? Why did Zelensky deny until the last moment that we would come on this day? The President has an important function today and we must support him until the end of the war. But at the end of this war, every politician will pay for his successes or failures", he said.

Klitschko was asked if he has ambitions to run for President of Ukraine.

"It would be foolish to think about it today. Today, the only question is whether Ukraine will continue to exist," he told the Swiss media.

Despite Vitali Klitschko's statements, Zelensky's popularity, according to Ukrainian media, is many times higher than in 2022, before Russia launched its offensive.

But support for Zelensky has fallen in recent months compared to when the war began, according to a survey organized by "Statista" in Ukraine.
