The Russian mercenary leader, who led a rebellion that almost reached Moscow, said his forces did not aim to overthrow the Russian government and had demonstrated weaknesses in Russian security.

Prigozhin said that his fighters had stopped their campaign to avoid bloodshed, writes Reuters .

"We went to a form of demonstration, protest, not to overthrow the country's government," he emphasized.

"Our march showed many things that we discussed earlier: the serious problems with security in the country," added Prigozhin.
