Local elections are held in Tuz, a municipality inhabited by an Albanian majority near Podgorica, on March 5. These are the second elections since Tuzi became an independent municipality.

From 07:00 to 20:00, 12,387 residents will be able to vote in 30 polling stations. The local parliament has 32 councilors. Seven electoral lists, including four coalitions, compete in the local elections.

A part of the Albanians in Tuz are Muslims and the rest are Catholics.

Tuzi is in the center of Malsija, which is located between Montenegro and Albania.

Tuzi regained its status as an independent municipality - which was taken from 1958 - in September 2018, separating from the capital of Montenegro. Decades ago, Tuzi was an administrative part of Podgorica and then one of the municipalities of the capital.

For almost two decades, the main political demand of Albanian parties, but also of the diaspora, was for Tuzi to become a municipality.

In the first elections held in 2019, the Democratic Party of Socialists (DPS) of president Millo Djukanović won power in Tuz.

Most of the votes were won by the coalition of Albanian parties, the Albanian Forum, which was supported by a democratic councillor. They formed the local government led by Nik Gjeloshaj.
