Former Greek Prime Minister Kostas Karamanlis announced his decision not to be a candidate in the upcoming elections in Greece.

The former prime minister emphasized that he has made the decision to end his parliamentary career, clarifying that he will always support the New Democracy party.

"I have decided that it is time to end my parliamentary journey. Therefore, I will not be a candidate in the next elections.

Of course, I always support the government of New Democracy, the faction founded by Konstantinos Karamanlis, where I have served continuously for almost half a century.

Loyal to its history, ideology, principles and values. With respect and love for the world and all Greek citizens", said Karamanlis.

After the statement of Kostas Karamanlis, in which he made it clear that he will not participate in the elections, Kyriakos Mitsotakis held a statement of thanks for the former Greek Prime Minister.

"I want to thank Kostas Karamanlis for his many years of contribution. Personally, in fact, I do not forget that under his party leadership I entered politics.

I know that he always has New Democracy in his heart. Even more so today, when the turning point in his many-year journey coincides with the opening of new and optimistic horizons for our country and our party.

Therefore I am sure that, wherever he is, he will continue to devote all his energies to the good of Greece and our great faction. And he will be present in the big election battle that will start", said Mitsotakis.
