Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau resigns: Proud to have fought for Canada
Justin Trudeau

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced his resignation today, during a press conference addressed to his people.

Trudeau began his speech by saying that every morning he has woken up as prime minister, he has been inspired by the resilience and generosity of Canadians.

He said that since becoming prime minister in 2015, he has fought for Canada and its people, to strengthen and grow the middle class, and that he has seen the country's willingness to support each other during the pandemic and has worked to protect free trade on the continent.

"This country deserves a real choice" in the upcoming election, Trudeau said, after announcing his resignation as prime minister.

He hoped it had become clear, if he had to fight "internal battles" that he might not be the best option on the ballot for Canadians.

Trudeau went on to say that this is why the country needs a new session of parliament and the meeting will be postponed until March 24.
