"Trump didn't lose, but Vladimir Putin won." That's how John Bolton, the former US ambassador to the UN and former National Security Advisor during the tycoon's first term, summed up the outcome of the Alaska summit in an interview with CNN.

"Trump," the American diplomat said, "came up with nothing but a few new meetings. Putin, on the other hand, has made great strides in improving his relationship with the United States, has escaped sanctions and is not planning a ceasefire; the next meeting is not scheduled and Zelensky has not been told anything about what came out of the press conference."

"Of course, it's far from over, but I think Putin got a lot of what he wanted, and Trump got very little," Bolton said in the interview, noting that he saw a "very, very tired" Trump. "Not disappointed, but very tired. And we need to reflect on what that means," he concluded.
