The assassination of Charlie Kirk

Footage of the assassination that took the life of Charlie Kirk, one of the most popular figures of the new generation of Trumpism, has made the rounds of the world and social networks.

Kirk, 31, was on the campus of the University of Utah where he was holding one of his famous "prove me wrong" meetings, where he publicly challenged opponents of his ideas.

Among the students, while filming another “Turning Point” activity, he was shot in the neck by a sniper positioned on a nearby building. Kirk fell to the ground in critical condition and died a short time later in hospital.

The perpetrator remains unknown. The only thing certain is that the assailant used a precision weapon and fired a single shot, leaving immediately.

In this information vacuum, social media has been filled with conspiracy theories. Many users have analyzed the footage circulating, focusing on the movements of the two people standing behind Kirk a few seconds before the shooting.

One, wearing a white hat, is seen touching its visor, while another, identified by some as part of Kirk's security, makes a strange hand gesture. For many commentators, these movements have been interpreted as "signals" to the assassin.

Others focused on a student who, at the moment of the shot, stood up and turned his head in the direction of the noise, while the rest of the crowd was still lying on the ground. "It was as if he had anticipated the shot," users wrote.

Other misinformation videos have also circulated online, including one showing a man running away from a building, which was presented as the bomber's escape. It was later proven to be an entirely different event, a gunfight at a Nevada casino in July.

Meanwhile, the political backlash has been immediate. Trump called the killing an act of the “radical left,” while Elon Musk went even further, calling the left “the party of murderers.” At the same time, the MAGA community and the far right have used the occasion to increase rhetoric against their opponents.

The truth remains unclear, but one thing is certain: political violence in the United States is on the rise, and any such event immediately becomes a breeding ground for polarization and manipulation.

Just like after the assassination attempt against Trump at a rally in Pennsylvania, this time too, "false flag" theories or the involvement of the FBI, CIA, or the Biden administration itself have returned strongly to public discourse, further deepening divisions within American society.
