Iran's attack on Israel

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said his missile attack on Israel was in defense of Iran's interests and citizens, warning on X that Tuesday's operation was "only part of our power".

He also addressed Netanyahu, saying that Iran is not a warmonger, but will stand firmly against any threat. He warned Israel that the attack was only part of Iran's capabilities and not to engage in a conflict with his country.

"This action was in defense of the interests and citizens of Iran. To let (Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin) Netanyahu know that Iran is not belligerent, but it stands firm against any threat. Do not enter into conflict with Iran," he wrote.

In a message posted on X, Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei warned in Hebrew that the strikes against Israel would become stronger and more painful.

"With God's help, the blows of the insurgency front will become stronger and more painful on the worn out and rotten body of the Zionist regime," he said.

Ebrahim Azizi, head of Parliament's National Security and Foreign Policy Committee, told media in Iran that this attack was the first wave of attacks by the Revolutionary Guard.

He said that they targeted Israeli military centers, but they may have also hit civilian centers due to miscalculations.

"If Israel makes a mistake again there will be a second wave even more devastating," he said.

Azizi said that according to Iran's estimates, Israel cannot respond to Iran's attacks.

The barrage comes after Israel launched a ground operation across its northern border into Lebanon, targeting the Iran-backed Hezbollah militant group. Israel killed Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah in an airstrike last Friday and destroyed the leadership of the most powerful paramilitary force in the Middle East, raising fears of a new regional war, writes A2.

Meanwhile, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken called the Iranian missile attack against Israel unacceptable and added that the whole world should condemn it.

Blinken said this attack included "about 200 ballistic missiles". Israel initially estimated that 180 rockets were fired at the country. Israel "effectively defeated this attack," Blinken added.
