The Prime Minister of Hungary, Viktor Orban, has held a meeting with the Serbian President, Aleksandar Vucic. In this meeting, Orban asked Vucic to listen to the recommendation of the official Budapest and return the arrested policemen of Kosovo to their country.
"With respect, I ask you, dear Alexander, to think this through. Serbia's enemies are eager to harm Serbia and this is such a situation and case that I think it would be better for you to listen to Hungary's recommendation to return them to Kosovo," Obran said in Subotica, during meeting with high officials of Serbia.
He added that this would help Serbia "in their cause".
"Therefore, I am asking you to think about this," Orban said.
On June 14, 3 Kosovo border police were arrested by Serbian forces. Serbia said they were arrested "deep" inside its territory, but Kosovo said they were patrolling in Kosovo territory, near the border line with Serbia in Leposavic.
The policemen have been remanded in custody for a month and are being held in a prison in Kralevë.
According to the Serbian authorities, the policemen are suspected of having committed the criminal offences: production, possession, possession and illegal trafficking of weapons and explosives. These offenses are punishable by up to 12 years in prison.
The United States, Germany and the United Kingdom have asked Serbia to release the Kosovo policemen, without conditions.
Orban also said that Hungary, which recognizes the independence of Kosovo, and Belgrade still refuses to accept it, is following the events between Kosovo and Serbia.
"We are seeing what is being done to the Serbs. I think it is unacceptable for the international community to accept elections, where about 4 percent of voters participated, and consider them legal and recognize the results. This is what we see and it is clear to us," added Orban.
During the press conference with Orban, the president of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić, said that in the case of the three arrested policemen, he is working "with the competent authorities".
He added that he would consider any request by Hungary.
Vucic repeated that he will not meet with the Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, after the invitation that was sent to the two leaders from the European Union for a meeting on crisis management.
The Serbian leader reiterated Serbia's demands, in order for the meeting with Kurti to take place: the withdrawal of the new Albanian mayors of Zveçan, Zubin Potok and Leposavič, the withdrawal of the Kosovo Police from the north of Kosovo and a ban on the arrest of Serbs.
Brussels' invitation to Vučić and Kurti came after the rise of tensions in the north of Kosovo inhabited by a majority of Serbs.
On May 26, Serbs opposed the entry of the new Albanian mayors into the municipal buildings in Zveçan, Leposavic and Zubin-Potok.
The new presidents were elected in the April 23 elections that were boycotted by the Serbian parties and population in the north./REL
