A 59-year-old Georgian man suspected of spying for Russia has been arrested in Greece.

He was detained while documenting military installations in Alexandroupolis and the movements of military vehicles and equipment with photographs and videos.

According to Greek media, it is suspected that he may have been a member of a wider and deeper Russian espionage network, as the 59-year-old's recruiter, who had lived in Greece since the 1990s, was arrested in Lithuania while preparing the assassination of a Russian dissident of Putin's government.

In fact, Lithuanian police informed Greek authorities and the 59-year-old was arrested while working on a newly constructed building.

As it turns out, he was approached by another Greek, who had relatives in Thessaloniki, and is known to the authorities as he had been arrested several times for theft, robbery and other criminal offenses.

The same information reports that authorities confiscated his mobile phone and managed to track the 59-year-old from messages they had exchanged via applications, in which they sent photos from the military installations of Alexandroupolis.

In the videos found and sent to his partner in Lithuania, the 59-year-old himself appeared to be presenting the images as part of his work as a reporter.

One of the scenarios that Greek authorities are considering is that, with the information and photographs that the 59-year-old spy sent to his recruiters, they planned to sabotage a NATO base, in order to symbolically and substantially disrupt the transport of military equipment from the port of Alexandroupolis to Ukraine.

"According to an alleged dialogue he had with the recruiter, they discussed questions such as:

"How can I go take pictures without being noticed?"

"Wear athletic shoes, dress appropriately, and take a stick with you, so it looks like you're going for a walk."
