The trial against former FBI agent Charles McGonigal will involve classified information along with electronic communications and financial records, a prosecutor said Thursday during a court hearing.

McGonigal, who has pleaded not guilty to charges related to his ties to sanctioned Russian oligarch Oleg Deripaska, appeared alongside his lawyer and a co-defendant, ABC News writes.

Prosecutors revealed the types of evidence they expected to use, and the judge directed the two sides to work on a protective order to ensure nothing classified was revealed.

The defense was given an additional 90 days to review all the evidence discovered so far. A lawyer for McGonigal's co-defendant, former Russian diplomat Sergey Shestakov, asked the government to search intelligence agency files for evidence that could be useful to the defense.

McGonigal is charged separately in Washington, DC, with accepting money from an Albanian-American while still with the FBI. He also pleaded not guilty in that case.
