The International Court of Justice (ICJ) based in The Hague, Netherlands today ordered Israel to take "all measures within its powers" to prevent acts of genocide in Gaza, but did not order a ceasefire.

Delivering its provisional judgment in the genocide case on provisional measures initiated by South Africa, the ICJ said: "The State of Israel must comply with its obligations under the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide , with respect to the Palestinians in Gaza, to take all measures within its powers to prevent the commission of all acts within the framework of Article 2 of the Convention".

The ICJ also said that Israel "must ensure with immediate effect that its military forces do not cause any of the aforementioned deaths".

The court stated that it is very aware of the humanitarian tragedy in Gaza and is deeply concerned about the loss of life, stressing that the charges against Israel have been proven to a "reasonable level".

"The court further finds that Israel must take immediate and effective measures to enable the provision of urgently needed basic services and humanitarian assistance to address the adverse living conditions faced by Palestinians in the Gaza Strip," the court added. in the Hague.

Israel must report to the ICJ within one month regarding its compliance with the order.
