Germany is working on drawing up a list of bunkers that can provide emergency shelter for civilians, writes Spiegel.
Germany's interior ministry reportedly said today that basements, underground car parks, private properties and subway stations could be turned into shelters, with a special app showing where the nearest bunker is.
Germany has already increasingly focused on defending itself since Russia's invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, reports Tg.
And the plan comes at a time of rising tensions with Russia, and as civil defense organizations in Germany call for a faster expansion of shelters.
There are 579 public shelters set aside for civil protection purposes, with a capacity of about 480,000.
