In Germany, the shortage of skilled labor will reach a record level in 2022, according to a new study. More than 630,000 jobs for skilled workers could not be filled last year because the unemployed were not qualified for the requirements, said the Competence Center for Skilled Workers, which operates under German Economic Institute.

This reality, according to the institute, has marked the biggest gap in the supply and demand for work, since such analyzes began to be made in 2010. The sectors of health, social services and education have been affected the worst, together with the sectors of construction, architecture, and construction technology. According to the study, six out of 10 vacancies in these sectors have not been filled.

A greater shortage, than usual, has also been observed in the information technology sector, in natural sciences and geography. The lack of qualified workforce has also been observed in the commercial services sectors, in trade, sales, hospitality and tourism, as three out of 10 jobs remained unfilled last year. In general, the more qualifications that are required for a job, or sector, the more difficult employment has been.

Workers have said they have noticed a lack of young graduates in the sectors of information technology, electrical engineering and spatial planning. A shortage of skilled labor is said to have been observed for a long time in the German market, and it is believed that the admission of migrants is necessary to address this problem.

"We need migrants, both for physical work and for skilled work", said the head of the Unemployment Agency, Andrea Nahles./REL
