It was a photo published by Haxhi Shala's son for Kosovo's Independence Day that influenced the continuation of Hashim Thaçi's detention.

This concerns footage showing Haxhi Shala and Hashim Thaçi standing together in the Detention Center, in a video link.

According to the rules of the Special Chamber, this is prohibited, and the Prosecution has used it to claim that Thaçi could influence witnesses in this way.

“ Thaci’s apparent participation in another prisoner’s video call, which contradicts the conditions imposed on him, further highlights a concrete risk that he may use communication with other prisoners’ visitors to establish indirect contact with witnesses or to disseminate confidential information.

"Outside the controlled environment of the Detention Center, such risks would be even greater. Therefore, detention is the most effective means to limit Thaçi's ability to flee, otherwise obstruct the KSK proceedings and/or commit further crimes ," the Hague Prosecutor's document states.
