Mike Reiss and Alan Estrada, two people who traveled in 2022 aboard the Titan submarine to see the Titanic, revealed to the Daily Mail the contract they signed for the company OceanGate, the organizer of the trip. In that contract, the company was excluded from any liability if incidents occurred during exploration.
In it, in addition to the obligation to pay the $250,000 that the ticket cost, the word "death" was mentioned three times on the first page alone: "This experimental vessel has not been approved or certified by any regulatory body and may cause physical injury, emotional trauma or death".
Reiss and Estrada agreed that it was a "suicide" mission.
“I have signed that there may be failures that could cause injury or death. And that they were not the responsibility of the company. There I felt that I was risking my life", said Estrada.
The Mexican YouTuber clarified that, at all times, those who signed were well aware of the terms of the contract: “We signed several pages, I don't remember how many, explaining each of the risks, including loss of life. We who are involved in these expeditions know that we are not going to an amusement park."
For his part, the scriptwriter of The Simpsons told the BBC what his thoughts were after entering the submarine: "They mention death three times on the front page, so you never get that thing out of your head. When I was entering the submarine, I thought it might be the end. So the one who undertakes this initiative has taken death into account".
