Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis has invited farmers who have been blocking highways for several days to sit at the dialogue table.
But the Greek prime minister's invitation has fallen on deaf ears, as farmers are determined to celebrate the holidays in blockades if their demands are not met. According to them, the government has been presented with several basic demands, such as the cost of production and the oil issue.
From Tuesday, December 23, until Friday, the roads will be open only for Christmas, while farmers will reconsider their actions for the New Year. The prosecutor ordered the police to continue with the formation of a case file for the investigation and identification of individuals who have allowed drivers to cross the road without paying the toll.
According to the Ministry of Rural Development, out of 27 requests made by farmers, 16 of them have been fulfilled or are being processed, including freezing debts to insurance organizations or banks, full compensation for the slaughter of livestock herds due to smallpox, as well as replenishing income for beekeepers and livestock farmers.
The farmers reject this assessment, stressing that the government has not met any of their basic demands. They insist that if they had, they would not be on the streets.
