A network of hacked computers has been supplying Russia with information on Western countries for about 20 years. The FBI revealed today that it has disabled the network that Russian spies have used for years to obtain sensitive information from at least 50 countries, including the governments of NATO countries.

Russia's domestic intelligence service, the FSB, has allegedly used the sophisticated hacking tool to infiltrate US and Western diplomatic and military agencies for nearly two decades.

The FBI used a court order Monday to cut off Russian access to the U.S. computer network that hackers were using to secretly obtain information around the world, CNN reported.

The Russian hacking group that was busted by the FBI, known as Turla, is thought to be one of the most elite cyber espionage units in the Russian intelligence services. Turla's tools have been implicated in an intrusion into US military networks in the mid-late 1990s and the hacking of US Central Command in 2008.
