UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy is travelling to Geneva on Friday, June 20, for a key meeting with his French and German counterparts, as well as Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi. The meeting is also expected to be attended by the European Union's foreign policy chief, Kaja Kallas.

The talks, if they go ahead, would be the first between Iranian and Western leaders since Israel launched strikes a week ago. The focus of these meetings is to bring Iran to the negotiating table and reduce tensions in the region.

French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot said the aim of the talks was to ensure "the permanent withdrawal from Iran of its nuclear and ballistic missile programs."

In a statement to the X social network, Lammy stressed: “Now is the time to end the heavy scenes in the Middle East and prevent a regional escalation that would benefit no one.”

Also, during a meeting with Senator Rubio, Lammy and he agreed that "Iran can never develop or acquire a nuclear weapon."

This meeting marks an important diplomatic step in efforts to stabilize the situation in the Middle East.
