The United States of America, through the special envoy for the Western Balkans, Gabriel Escobar, increases criticism of Prime Minister Albin Kurti. After closing the two-day meetings with political leaders in Pristina, Escobar in a meeting with journalists said that the relations between the people of the USA and Kosovo are strong and "will not change", but Washington has some challenges in bilateral relations. with Prime Minister Kurti.
"When we want to restore coordination and partnership with this government, we are ready, because we will always be with the people of Kosovo. This does not mean that we should support an individual who does not have that instinct for cooperation and coordination".
Escobar that the way to move forward, namely to de-escalate the situation in the north, is the EU's proposal that the new Albanian mayors should not work from municipal facilities at a time when tensions are high and that new local elections be held in this area .
"If these efforts fail, it will send a strong signal that Kosovo is not interested in coordinating with us. I think that would be unfortunate. Not Kosovo, but the prime minister. For Kosovo, the only solution is the Association. It will happen, but the question is with whom and for how long will we have to wait? Therefore, I do not understand this delay".
The two emissaries of the USA and the EU, Gabriel Escobar and Miroslav Lajcak, in addition to the president and the prime minister, also met with the leaders of the opposition parties, as well as with the Serbian list. Opposition leaders blamed Kurti, stating that thanks to the Prime Minister's actions, Kosovo is in a critical situation.
