Charlie Kirk's widow will take over the leadership of his conservative nonprofit, Turning Point USA.

Erika Kirk, 36, was unanimously elected the new CEO of the organization, which supports conservative politics on high school and college campuses, a week after her husband was killed.

"In previous discussions, Charlie expressed to numerous leaders that this is what he wanted in the event of his death," the organization said in a statement. "May God bless Erica, the Kirk family, and the entire team at Turning Point USA."

Kirk founded Turning Point USA in 2012 when he was just 18 years old and transformed what was initially a new campus organization into a nationwide movement that secured him a place in the upper echelons of the MAGA movement.

Kirk was organizing an event at Utah Valley University when he was shot and killed by a gunman sitting on a rooftop 130 feet away.

His alleged killer, Tyler Robinson, 22, appeared in court on Tuesday after prosecutors revealed he had become "more political and had begun to lean more to the left, becoming more pro-gay and transgender rights oriented" over the past year.

There has been much speculation about who would take over the movement as Erika Kirk admitted she was "more conservative" than her husband during a joint podcast appearance earlier this year.

In her first public remarks since her husband's death, Erika Kirk said she would "never let his legacy die."

"Charlie always said that when he was gone, he wanted to be remembered for his courage and faith. Now and for all eternity, he will stand at the side of his savior, wearing the glorious crown of a martyr," she said.
